Distillery

History and tradition.

Traditional distillery from 1922

The distillery was founded in 1922 with the acquisition of the distilling right and has always been an integral part of the town of Sulzbach-Rosenberg in the Upper Palatinate. From then on, various fruit distillates were produced and marketed under the brand name “Birgländer Edelobstbrände”.

Then in 1925, the first certified legal permission was granted to process Juniper berries. This was not a common occurrence at that time. This certification then permitted, my Grandfather’s London Dry Gin called ‘Extra Dry Gin’ with 43% vol., to be added to the product range

Later, in the 1960s, the Prune Plum – “Zwetsch” Brandy Liqueur was added – a fine and elegant plum liqueur with 30% vol. This liqueur is still produced today according to the traditional family recipe.

Recent Times

In 2004, Dietmar, the fourth generation, took over the business from his father Franz Ostermann. An extensive restructuring and remodeling in 2017 and 2018 allowed the realization of a new distillery for the new generation of high-quality brandies and liqueurs. .

Hand in hand, perfection and passion, father and son dedicate themselves to their profession.

Always striving for the best, we are delighted that our spirits and liqueurs repeatedly achieve top recognition in national and international quality competitions, such as the Bayern Brand, World Spirit Award, DLG, BERLIN CRAFT SPIRITS and from various distillery associations. We participated exclusively in blind tastings, where only the quality of the pure distilled spirit is evaluated.
